On ANZAC day Emma Waters played in our Division2 women’s games and that weekend debuted in senior umpiring.
For the health of the game, we know that we need both increasing numbers and talent in players and we also need the same in umpires. It is therefore very pleasing to see that within Pennant Hills Australian Football Club we have those who contribute to both.
Some details from Emma:
I started umpiring as I loved the sport of AFL and it was a great way for me to stop umpiring on the couch next to my dad and actually put it to good use. It was also a great way for me to develop my knowledge of the game and gain a little extra pocket money.
- started umpiring in 2022
- umpired a giants academy matches after a few months of umpiring
- was chosen to be a part of the next gen academy in 2023 and was later chosen to be a part of the super 24 umpiring panel where I was given the opportunity to learn from VFL umpire Chris Brakenrig and boundary umpire Michael Barlow
- umpired the under 15s grand final in 2023.”
Emma is also a member on the leadership team assisting coaches of the northwest junior umpire group. In this role she assist in the training and development of our next generation of senior umpires.
Congratulations Emma on reward for your effort and thank you for your contribution to the health of AFL in our region as both a player and umpire.
