ROUND 12 – What a great turn out and day the past players functions was
From the President
Our clubrooms looked resplendent with premiership banners and trophies on display as well as memorabilia and historical presentations running. Tables set with red and blue serviettes, table cloths and cutlery for the sit down meal.
Thank you must go to Tommy Angel and Tim Wales for their work in driving this. Thank you also to the support they were provided by Phil Hare, Carol Hare, Sue Blow, Jo Bolster and Ian Parker. The day was one the club can be very proud of. The feedback was excellent. The support to games from the sidelines was excellent. We are very proud of our culture at Pennant Hills and welcome the continued engagement of our past players and continuing to build on this.
Disappointingly this season we again lost some game in Round 12 due to the weather causing ground closures. With no other grounds available to move to, these games were cancelled.

Thankfully Mike Kenny #1 Oval remained open allowing us to play games and reschedule some onto it. This saw an early start with game one kicking off at 7:40am. Thank you to the dedicated crew who consistently turn up to aid in ground setup a very early start and a late finish.
Again, the club really needs your support. Become a member or buy Good for Footy Raffle tickets or both. All funds go directly to support our club and to provide the programs we do for our players and the support they get through physiotherapy and strength and conditioning programs an the development tools such as Athlete Tracker that provides video review capabilities, team selections, medical management etc.
Have a look at our Membership Page to find the options available. For payment, go to Athlete Tracker, select your preferred option and record you details. Items can be collected at the ground or shipped to you.

If you have any issues please feel free to reach out to Paul Vink, the clubs commercial manager at commercial@phafl.com.au, Ian Parker, Vice President at vp@phafl.com.au or myself at president@phafl.com.au.

Premier Division Men Vs UTS Bats
(PH 21.10.136 Defeated UTS Bats 4.3.27)
R12 would see us play the UTS Bats, which were coming off a 10 goal win last week. After a big week on the track working on a few things, we were confident we could bounce back from a couple of losses on the trot. We would unfortunately lose Jackson Potter to a knee injury and Mikey Carroll (wedding), wishing Pottys a speedy recovery. We would welcome back in our co-captain, Luke Skrivanic from injury & Zac Elliot from Div 1.
We would start the game very well with our midfield back to full strength, we would miss some early chances in front of the goals, but our movement was much better. Our backline which has been our rock all year had a great opening quarter keeping the bats to one goal, while we would kick 3.4. The 2nd quarter we would continue our dominance around the footy and with our pressure acts, taking a nice lead into the HT break, 56 to 13.
We knew we had another gear to go and was able to have a huge premiership quarter, kicking 7 goals to 1, with our hard running a highlight. The message was to put our foot to the throat & continue to run hard, and the boys sure did. We would kick another 6 goals to walk away with a huge 109 win. Our midfield was superb all-day lead by Blow, Clark, Eynaud & Boag, our inside work was a big factor in nullifying the leagues leading goal scorer, Huge Birks. Up forward, Hey was a beast again, working hard up & down the ground, Hawes was lively with Moraitis, Pitt, Skrivanic solid. Larby played his best game for us to date, creatin a contest and working hard both ways, Connor Matthews again was a rock as was Willey.
Next up is the improved Inner Wests Magpies in which will be a pivotal game for the double chance.

Premier Division Women's v UTS Bats
(PH 0.1.1 Loss to UTS 21.9.135)
Well, what a week in footy as they say - we had 6 players go to a wedding, we had another 3 players pull out the night before the game with illness and another player unavailable making 10 players in total missing from our team.
We set about introducing 4 new first game players from the strong U’17 Lightning team making 9 permit holders into the team. Our youngest team to date. Congratulations to Jessica Lauff, Amelia McNamara, Haley Marriott and Remy Alley all playing a terrific first game for the club.
Also wish to thank the players who put there hand up to assist on such short notice. Thank you goes to Haylee Cole, Rebecca Aapa and Sophie Pendlebury coming up to play on short notice.
We also had Bridgette Chan who played her first game senior game for the club Congratulations.
FYI - The club had tried to have the game shifted to accommodate for the wedding, but our opposition wouldn’t have it. They played with a full list of players points containing 44 out of 44 players points against their team.
Again, we had a standout performance from Sheridan Baker (17y) playing down back and holding firm under a huge amount of 4 qtr. Pressure. Sheridan’s opponent is a leading goal kicker in the competition, The oppositions player strength, height and body size didn’t deter Sheridan any stage through-out the 4 qtrs. Great effort Sheridan and at your age only shows how good you can become.
We had our previous raising star nomination Tara Coopman leave the ground with a head knock which depleted our mid rotations heavily.
Our under manned team tried several different things throughout the game of which l thank them for. Players were played out of position and rotated heavily throughout the game.

“I get what I want when I help others to get what they want”
We have had a lot of team discussions each week about our game plan, strengths and weaknesses etc and as we come to the back half of the season its important we focus on what our strengths as a team are, we fine tune our plan, and just get better. Today was an opportunity to put into action some subtle changes to our game plan to see what we can do. And didn’t it pay dividends to this group today. A lot of positives to take away.

Q1 – Rolling pressure was elite. They had no time and we won most of the contested ball – Spida, Henry, Dyl all at it early. Our first goal came from a bursting forward entry from Jack R to Murda for a goal. Spida kicked the second from great hands off the pack from Dyl for a running snap goal. Then again Cal took a great read off the pack for a kick to Murda for a mark and goal. Excellent start with clean ball movement and many players involved in great play. Roman was strong in the ruck and our defenders had less pressure to contend with today, but when it did go down there, they were on their game.
4.2.26 to 0.
Q2 – Our forwards needed to apply pressure in transition to lock the ball in and they did well. Often its not taking the mark that’s important, just competing well and bringing the ball to ground in front so our crumbers can get a bite at it is enough. Welcome back Zander and into the game he came doing this in aerial contests and was rewarded with a goal. Jimmy scored a great snap goal and our forward craft was good, with another snap goal soon after to Dyl as a reward for his hard running and getting front and square to the contest. Jack R took a hanger at half forward and delivered a clean entry kick to Muz with lowered eyes. Anther snap goal to Ryan B soon after from a good spot on his left off the pack. Cooper Smith in defence was solid to stop a forward move from them as was Luka, and Harvey was having impact in the ruck and in the marking contests. Right on half time Jimmy scored a goal from the angel to give us a dominant lead. It was relentless.
10.5.65 to 0.1.1
Q3 – Spida was having a great game with his work rate and clean possession game at ground level. Roman applied great tackle pressure and dominance in the ruck, and Cooper Smith hit a run from behind tackle for holding the ball. They were being stopped in their tracks with every move. Ryan B was again in the thick of it with more clever forward craft.
14.6.90 – 0.1.1
Q4 – We had worked hard to involve many players in a solid team effort. Murda took another forward mark and goal for number 5 for the day. Murda’s work rate was solid up forward to get the ball out to Ryan B for goal number 4 for the day. What was most pleasing was it seemed smooth, clean and effortless at times. We were playing smarter – not trying to do too much, following the game plan, selfless team footy and giving the ball to the first option – and it paid dividends. The goals kept coming and from easy positions on the ground due to our superior work rate further up the ground to create opportunities for others. Many commented on how often great passages of play involved many different players across the ground. So many even performances amongst our best – Jimmy was excellent, Josh Chapple was great at half forward, Harvey’s tackle pressure, ruck work, marking contests, Jack R clean and smart decision making spreading the ball to loose men. It was great to see.
Unfortunately, Roman had a head clash in a tackle with only 5 mins left in the game and came off with a broken nose and concussion. A rotten blow after such a great game from him.
Things to learn –
- We don’t take our pressure off at any stage of the game, regardless of what the scoreboard says. We work hard for our teammates. We play to our game plan for 4 quarters.
- We are smart with our energy management, rotations, and ball use. Clean and decisive.
- We take calculated risks and work up and back.
- No U turns, no trying to run around blokes, let the ball do the work.
- Selflessness and make your teammate look good.
We will continue to refine and discuss our game plan but I loved how we involved our team mates more today. Everyone contributed.
Best players –
Roman DV – Best on from the ruck. His work rate and grit in the contests was superb. Best game of the year from him.
Spida – clean and hard from inside mid and goals were his reward. Great game.
Dylan Bonham – Work rate up and back in the contests was consistent for 4 quarters. They couldn’t match him.
Jack Roberts – Loved his game today. Didn’t try to do too much but his disposal efficiency was through the roof today because he made quick decisions to the first free man. More of that from you Jack.
Ryan Bonham – 4 goals and work rate in the mids. Superb game and forward craft.
Andrew Murdoch – 5 goals up forward. Too strong and assisted with the set up of others.

Division 1 Men V Balmain Tigers
(PH 11.14.80 Defeated Balmain 4.3.27)
Early game Saturday morning as we took on Balmain on the home deck. We started the game flying and put the pressure on locking the ball in our forward half and hitting the score board. We went into the quarter time break 27 points up and kept Balmain to just 1 point for the term.
Second quarter we kept up our form and leaders such as Lucas, Swanny and Hally kept the pressure on. We still struggled to kick goals but managed to kick another 4 to help extend the lead. Balmain late in the quarter responded well and rebounded on us a couple times to manage 2 goals before the half time siren.
We tried to reassess and went out to the third with intention of getting the momentum back but Balmain over ran us and kicked another 2 goals to our 1 point bringing the lead back to 30 points. The men were feeling down but captain Trenamen got around the lads at the break to spark some hope and fight back into the side.
What ever Mitch said worked as we ran out the final quarter kicking 3 more goals but 6 points adding further to our inaccuracy. A few spot fights and a couple yellow cards throughout the game added to the tension, but we got the job done. Not the prettiest win we have had but win none the less.

Under 19.5's Division vs UTS Bats
(PH 14.10.94 Defeated UTS 1.4.10)
The boys enjoyed a dominant victory over the UTS Bats in our earliest game of the year, winning 14.10 (94) to 1.4 (10). Another must-win game dealt with, the boys are primed and ready heading into a crucial match-up against Manly next-week.
First Half
Despite the early morning kick-off and the wet conditions, the Demons came out firing. They established control from the opening bounce, showcasing their superior skills and teamwork. Max Newley proved himself worthy of a move into the forwards kicking our first and his first of three of the day. It was tough losing Captain Dre to a cork in the 1st quarter but the boys more than picked up the slack. Patty was getting the ball moving forwards constantly, ably backed up by one of our 17’s and a first-gamer in Sammy Condon whenever the ball got into our defensive fifty. Big Tobes was taking bounces and kicking nukes from fifty out, Eamon was taking Speccy’s with two broken fingers, Henry was everywhere with his first, second and third efforts and Bulldog was being a nuisance in the middle with his head over the footy constantly. By halftime, we were well and truly in the ascendancy, leading 41 – 2.
Second Half

Our second half challenge was to keep our foot on the throat – something we’ve struggled with this year but more than achieved in this game. Despite falling just short of scoring 100 points (94) and letting in no goals (1) the boys fought till the end. (Amazing what we can do with a bench hey). Huge shout-out to big Alex Bates for kicking his first goal for us. Second ever gamer Jaxon Morales was also leaps and bounds improved, shutting down a pretty dangerous opponent all day. Big thanks again to our 17’s that helped us out, Eamon was a dominant target up front, Cohen was a class above with his clean hands and immaculate skills in the wet, Lucas was constantly winning the footy and has been crowned Leandre’s favourite player, Kael was huge with his clean hands and inside 50 entries, Matt was a workhorse all day, winning his battles, Ethan had some fantastic moments, the pick of which was his give and go, very silky hands in front of all the home supporters and Sammy Condon was absolutely dominant defensively, linking up with his brother Jakey Hammer Condon for a brilliant exit in a tricky moment.

Key Performers
- Toby Conway: Tobes has had a fantastic year for us, converting the promise he showed last year into a dominant 24, including a 1’s debut. One of the premier ruckmen in the competition he is expanding his game to include goals on the run from outside 50 which is just scary and speaks to his potential moving forwards.
- Patrick McMurrich: Our do-it-all, Patty has been spending a lot of time in the midfield with hardly any rest this year. Fantastic again he is simply a class above. Was stoked to be able to give him a break on the pine in this game and he obviously needed it, being run down for the first time I can remember…
- Max Newley: Been begging to go forward this year, Maxy more than made his chance count kicking three. Was a classy presence in the forward line and then put on a masterclass on the BBQ after. 10/10.
- Samuel Condon: Brother of the Hammer no more, Sammy is going to earn himself a nickname in no time. Was dominant down back, calm under pressure executed all his kicks well and was a reassuring presence. I was not worried any time it went near him. Blinder and we’d love to have him back.
- Henry Kelly: Henry has been a quiet achiever all year and more than earned his spot back in the 6 this week. Consistent ball-winner and the middle and looks dangerous every time he gets the ball in hand. One of our best trainers and an absolute pleasure to have around the group.
- Brad Bulldog Pearce: I knew UTS were in trouble when our inside mid destroyer rocked up in Uggs with toast in hand. Has been a revelation since rotating into the middle and more than lets me know about it. Keep going mate you’ve been on fire. (That is not a ginger joke don’t stress).
