This weekend the Club celebrates Dani Cahill’s 100th open-age game for the Pennant Hills Demons.
With today’s game Dani becomes the third women’s player at Penno to reach triple figures. Dani follows in the footsteps of former players Eleanor Rugg (103 games) and Hayley Lowe (102) who achieved the milestone in 2023 and 2024, respectively.
A former netballer, Dani’s footy career started in 2017 in Melbourne where she played 8 games for South Melbourne Districts in the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA).
Moving back home to Sydney in 2018 she was encouraged by Eleanor Rugg to come to Pennant Hills to continue her football with the Demons. Now in her 9 th season with Penno, Dani has played most of her footy in the Women’s Division Two competition. Dani has also played 8 games in the Women’s Premier Division team, debuting in Round 8, 2025 vs St George Dragons.
In season 2022, the Women’s Division Two side made Pennant Hills club history becoming the first Demon Women’s side to win the Minor Premiership and then to be crowned Premiers by winning the Grand Final at Henson Park on Father’s Day, Sunday 4 September 2022. Dani was Co-Captain of the Premiership team alongside Tamika Sutton.
The Grand Final was a typically low-scoring, edge-of-the seat affair, and Penno managed to squeak past their opponents, defeating the Penrith Rams by 2 pts, 3.3-21 to 3.1-19. Penno’s Sophia Wall won the match ball for her Best on Ground performance.
Coach Jed Corbett summed up the game: “A fantastic show of grit by the girls to come back and win, and an amazing game to watch. Credit to all the girls for such a magnificent season and a premiership to top it off! A great achievement and a big milestone for the team and Club.”
Dani’s best position is fullback. When trying her hand in the forwards Dani describes herself as the “Queen of sprayed kicks when in front of goals.” Wisely, she has settled into her role as fullback.
Dani’s fondest memories are the 2022 premiership and the annual “Crowie night” with all the girls. Danielle has several nicknames including Dan, Dani and Express. Her preferred jumper numbers are 4 and 24.
In what has been a difficult few years for the Women’s program Dani is to be commended for her loyalty to her teammates and the Club.
